Dissent.one
A website for a firm that takes fewer mandates, and means it.
We designed and built dissent.one for Dissent Advisory, a partner-led financial, risk, and legal collective in Chennai and Bangalore. The firm, seven practices, six free tools, and a course product share one voice: dark linen, one blue, and a brief on every page.

Timeline
Full engagement
Fundraise, Startups, Diligence, Audits, Books, Compliance, and a Legal hub that opens into six further practices.
GST rates, compliance, a data-room list, cash, valuation, and a term-sheet decoder. Free, and marked indicative.
Two pathways, about two hours each, with accounts, progress, and certificates that can be checked at a public URL.
Homepage, practices, tools, courses, and the firm's own anonymised mandates share one type, one blue, and one brief.
The challenge
Dissent Advisory needed one public presence for four kinds of work that usually live on four different products. A homepage a founder or a board can read in one sitting. A page for each line of counsel, with its own argument and a way to brief the firm. Free tools a company can use before it is a client. And a course product that teaches the same craft the firm sells.
The inventory is large: seven practices, a legal hub, six instruments, eight courses, anonymised mandates, a culture page, and a public brand manual. A template consultancy site would have turned that into a grid of services and a form. The people arriving are deciding whether to hand over a data room, a round, or a statutory calendar. The site had to read as one firm, and Brief Dissent had to be the primary act on every page.
What we built
The founders brought the writing. We designed how it is read, and we advised on how the practices, tools, and courses should sit together. The build stays plain where plain is enough, including a small admin for job applications.
- 01
Homepage As An Argument
A video ground, a three-line headline, credentials, a manifesto, seven practices, the journal, a client strip, a letter from leadership, and a 15-minute brief.
- 02
Seven Practice Rooms
Each practice has its own sections and intake. Fundraise is a capital event. Startups is four tracks. Legal is a hub, then six further practices.
- 03
Six Indicative Tools
GST Rate Finder, Compliance Finder, a due-diligence checklist, a cash diagnostic, a valuation estimator, and a term-sheet decoder. A rate can change without rewriting the page.
- 04
A Course Product
Eight courses in two pathways: Founder's Office and Sell-Side Diligence. Accounts, progress, and a certificate with a public credential URL.
- 05
The Firm's Own Record
Culture as three commandments, a public brand manual, and anonymised mandate studies. The advisory inside those studies stays the client's.
- 06
One Brief, Many Doors
Brief Dissent opens the homepage consult, or the intake on the practice you are already reading. Contact stays for people who already know the email.
- 07
A Simple Jobs Admin
Applications land in a small desk the team can read. We left the extra stages out. A hiring desk does not need a second product.
How we approached it
- 01
The Founders Wrote It
We did not. The practices, the arguments, and the line of the firm came from the partners. Our work was to design a site that could carry that writing.
- 02
Design, And Advise On The Shape
We designed the system, one blue and a brief on every page, and consulted on strategy: how the practices, tools, and courses should be sequenced so they still read as one firm.
- 03
Keep The Rest Simple
Careers needed an admin for applications. We kept it small. Read what came in, and stop there. We would rather leave a feature out than build a workflow nobody asked for.
The outcome
“Build with conviction.”
- A founder can read the firm, open the practice that matches the moment, and brief it without changing visual languages.
- A finance lead can look up a rate, map a compliance calendar, or run a valuation and still be inside Dissent. Every instrument is marked indicative.
- An operator can take a pathway from unit economics to a vendor databook, and leave with a certificate that can be verified.
- A buyer doing diligence on the firm can read an anonymised mandate and the commandments in the same week.
Inside the site
The homepage opens on a dark ground: partner-led from Chennai and Bangalore, then the three-line headline, then Brief Dissent. Fundraise talks about sitting on both sides of the table, with credential cards and two tools a company can use before a call. Courses are a sequence, Founder's Office beside Sell-Side Diligence. The valuation estimator decomposes a multiple in public: sector, growth, quality, efficiency, and where the result sits against the sector.
